StudiOpedia

StudiOpedia is a place you can go. It offers a finite methodology of 25 modules. Through the modular approach and the accompanying opportunities for teacher training, you can create your own learning pathway and your own learning ecology. Eventually, the aim is to create your own living workplace of ‘form aids function’ formats that work for you, in resilient curriculum design. Here you see the ‘fit for purpose’ design of the orchideorama realized in the botanical garden in Medellin by PLAN :B. Likewise, our approach to curriculum design is fit for purpose.

Enter the extraordinary world of the StudiOpedia. Where the most essential ‘form aids function’ lenses, formats, principles and frameworks for curriculum design, are transformed into a living workplace. Here, technical and human resilience come together, with our signature brain-based angle to curriculum design.

The StudiOpedia forms a unique, fit for purpose and finite methodology; it is possible to reach mastery that brings you calm. This finite methodology has been crafted and piloted by our senior advisor and teacher trainer Tikvah Breimer (MSc MEd MSc) for over a decade.

We bring back simplicity, the delight of the essence of teaching, of knowing, that you are enough because you meet the essentials in your teaching. Freeing time up for you, to be fully present in teaching (and also to attend to research and projects/activism).

At StudioBlended we understand technical and human resilience as two sides of the same coin (listen to a keynote). Technical resilience in your curriculum design, offers a systemic foundation for your human resilience to flourish and grow into an organic way of life and of teaching.

A unique aspect is the brain-based angle that is wired through, coming from fields such as neuroscience or cognitive psychology and really answering for you: why am I doing this in this way, why is it effective teaching, how do the body and brain work optimally together? How does a format, lens, principle or framework make sense to the way the brain learns, memorizes, and performs best?

An equally unique aspect that is wired through is the golden triangle of quality, time, cost investment. Does it make sense for you, as a teacher?

Surprisingly perhaps, our focus is equally on how you, as a university lecturer, can become more resilient, by becoming more skilled in improvising. That is a great compliment! We do not mean it in a derogatory way, in the sense of “just doing something” or “just saying something to solve a situation”, but in the sense of being fully equipped to respond to unknown realities unfolding before your eyes, through a solid arsenal of technique and pedagogy. One that comes naturally to you, a unique teacher. Such ability to improvise, makes a teacher much more resilient and is a birthplace of innovation. It is also vital, for the future of work, and the lived reality of new generations of teachers, who have to switch jobs quite often.

We take a more human, more technical, artistic and contemporary angle than teacher training at a traditional institute, and focus purely on design, since we believe from there development and delivery too are transformed.

How it works
The StudiOpedia is completely modular. There is no particular order; every module is a stand alone with intrinsic value; the workplace unfolds as you start to combine the modules (find our suggested worksheet).

Find at the bottom of this page, the dynamic StudiOpedia, which is built up incrementally over time. Here you also find an orientation per module (see also our printable syllabus).

When can you begin?
You can step in at any moment in time, either to tune in to an audio podcast on your favorite streaming channel in a moment convenient for you (Acast, Spotify, Apple). Or to join our monthly ZOOM audio realms, with peers and experts. These audio podcast and audio realms are mainly about the ‘what’, and the contextualisation of every lens, format, framework.

The transcripts of the audio podcast episodes will appear here too, to couple the recording.

Binder with formats / assignments
After the 2+ years of the pilot, we will compile a StudiOpedia binder, which will include the formats, lenses, frameworks and principles and the actual assignments for every module (how to do this?) that skill you in the actual technique. These assignments allow you to work with unique formats, lenses, principles and frameworks and experience for yourself how their functionality works for you. The StudiOpedia binder will be made available to university teachers (aspiring, new or seasoned alike) for an accessible price.
