Live time optimisation

Eu gostaria de ser lembrado como alguem que amou o mundo, as pessoas, os bichos, as arvores, a terra, a agua, a vida.
Paulo Freire.

I would like to be remembered as someone who loves the world, people, animals, the trees, the land, the water, life.
Paulo Freire.

Meet the architect and pedagogue Battista Mino who together with his wife Rina Sciumbata set up an Agriturismo - an Italian bed and breakfast which includes growing the vegetables and fruit that are served daily. He specialises in biodynamic agriculture, and can explain how to grow a zucchini like no one can - including the skies, and the soil.
IN-COMPANY TRAININGS

Are you a company trainer who organizes on-site training for professionals – to enter your company’s world for themselves, meet experts in person and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of your buildings? Allow us, to come alongside you, and with you to optimize such ‘live’ time in your trainings with a pedagogical lens.

At StudioBlended we have a deep love for pedagogy. For instance, the life and work of Reggio Emilia’s founding father, Malaguzzi, who always involves the physical environment inspire us. Some things can only truly be understood, through immersion in the learning environment, live. Experiencing it with all your senses, feeling the atmosphere, making the human connection with experts – rarely possible remotely, to give you the true understanding of a company’s identity and philosophy.

At the same time, you have to design the pedagogy of such a learning experience.

Approaches for training professionals have been developed over decades, but must now be reimagined to include the possibilities and opportunities of blended – the combination of ‘face to face’ and online learning. Rather than a dichotomy – either live or remote, the two become intertwined in a meaningful way when we look at how to optimize ‘live’ time with participants.

After prolonged lockdowns, and remote collaborations, nothing is as wonderful, as the possibility to train and teach participants in person, on location again. ‘Live’ is more special than ever. And participants too, will look forward to being able to follow a training live again, to travel.

At the same time, participants may expect to be able to take part in training remotely, in a self-paced manner, especially those modules that are mostly about knowledge. They may even make a different time/cost balance for their travelling and investment in their calendar as a consequence.

We have to envision such ‘live time’ in a new way. The possibilities of online learning platforms can optimise the moments live, by offering an online platform that operates in sync with the training in person. Certain material can be offered in modules beforehand – either synchronous (with interaction) or asynchronous. During the course, material can gain depth with extra modules online. And afterwards, learning can be taken further.

This also means, that our own on-site experts, must re-design their teaching completely to make optimal use of the exclusive time ‘live’ with participants. For instance, it would seem, that a PowerPoint presentation is a bit disappointing for participants who flew all the way in to the training. Designing for learning is worlds apart from experts who otherwise tend to focus mostly on ‘sending’ a lot of input based on their expertise.

Here, Malaguzzi comes back in, with a complete new understanding of the meaning of the physical environment for deep learning. A field, a laboratory, a venue – they can all be designed to enhance deep learning and actively engage participants. Instead of somewhat passive listeners, they get to interact with the environment, each other, the experts, through workformats designed with specific outcomes for learning.

How can you approach teaching and pedagogy in a new way, one that is both technically sound and has a fluent blended approach to it? How can you make the most of the on-site experience with preparation and aftercare in an online learning environment?

Allow us to offer consultancy starting where you are now with your training material, and with your experts on location. There are many possible options:

-      Developing your capacity to design a qualitative blended training that is resilient over time and centered on learning outcomes

-      Budget set-up (in concept) to show trade-offs in time/costs. Such as, expert fees, travel schedules, participant schedules, trainer schedules.

-      Consultation with your in-company trainees or external parties that are invited to the course about their needs and possibilities with regard to time/cost

-      Consultancy as you develop the material, with a new meaning and value to ‘live time’

-      Consultancy in designing and rolling out pilots, incorporation of lessons learnt/feedback, and consolidation into scaling.

-      Teacher training of your experts, on site (essential for observation)

Our qualified teacher trainer, Tikvah Breimer (MSc MEd MSc), has extensive capacity development experience across Europe, Latin America and Africa. She focuses on the technical side of design, deep pedagogy and resilience of the material. And she trains trainers / senior experts on site. She is able to travel to your location for such teacher training, since it is so essential to meet the expert in person, understand their expertise and teaching deeply, and then come alongside with observations and suggestions.

We work through a highly personalized and tailored approach in connection with a company trainer. Have a look at our manifesto to see if our core values and the way we work synchronize with your company’s identity. We can shape projects per season, to start delivering visible results for you as a trainer, the company, participants and your on-site experts.

Feel free to approach us with any questions you may have, so that we can see the challenges you face, and the opportunities and possibilities which exist, and what our studio can do for you.
